December Meeting: Pismo Beach Pier Reconstru ....

Description :

Imagine a place where all of life’s major milestones have taken place … a first date, a first kiss, falling in love, a first experience with seeing the ocean, a marriage proposal, catching your first fish, a break up and unfortunately even death. There is such a place where all of these things and more have taken place … the Historic Pismo Pier.  The Pismo Pier was constructed in 1882 and destroyed in 1905 by a series of storms.  In 1923 the pier was rebuilt in its current location (2 blocks north of where it was originally built). The pier suffered great damage in 1983 and rebuilt to its current iconic diamond shape in 1984.  Many parts of the pier still date back to 1923.  The City of Pismo Beach recently launched the Pismo Pier Rehabilitation Project that will largely reconstruct the entire Pismo Beach Pier.  This $6.6 M construction project is estimated to be completed around New Year’s 2019.

Ben Fine, Public Works Director for the City of Pismo Beach, will be presenting an update on this highly visible project at the heart of Pismo Beach.
