I want to take this opportunity to recognize the APWA California Central Coast Chapter on your success with increasing membership during the recently completed fiscal year. You and all the volunteers from the Chapter are to be congratulated for your efforts.
The California Central Coast Chapter showed a net increase of 4 members (3.03%), and was one of 29 chapters that achieved an increase for the fiscal year, which ended June 30.
Economic challenges remain for public agencies as budget cuts are making the decision to pay dues for public employees a difficult one. Private firms also face budgetary constraints that make the decision to pay membership dues for employees certainly more difficult than it was a few years ago. For your Chapter to have had a net increase in membership speaks volumes about how the members perceive their chapter and the value you offer.
Retaining current members and encouraging their participation and engagement in the chapter is vital to membership sustainability and can lead to membership growth as they become ambassadors for APWA and the chapter in recruiting new members.
You have my sincere appreciation for all that you and the rest of the California Central Coast Chapter leaders and members do to support APWA. Please contact Brad Patterson, APWA’s Chapter Relations Membership Manager, at firstname.lastname@example.org or at 816-595-5263 if you would like to utilize resources and assistance from APWA to help in your membership efforts.
